FAQs About Home Lifts in Cairns
Got questions about installing a lift in your FNQ home? You’re not alone
We’ve rounded up the most common questions we get asked—so you can feel confident, informed, and ready to take the next step.

Costs generally range from $38,000 to $90,000+, depending on the model,
number of stops, and any customisation. Because we’re based in regional North
Queensland, our pricing reflects the additional logistics involved in getting your
lift safely and efficiently to your home. This includes freight, travel and
accommodation for our installers, and where required, crane hire or specialised
equipment.
Yes. In most cases, installing a lift can increase your property’s value—sometimes
by up to 3x the cost of the lift. It makes your home more appealing to a wider
market, especially retirees and buyers looking for future-ready homes.
Some installations (especially external lifts or major modifications) may need
local council approval or engineering sign-off, while others fall under exemptions.
Don’t worry—we’ll help guide you through what’s needed in your area and generally your builder will take care of this.
Once all the preparations are complete, most lifts are installed in 2–5 days. For
pre-built systems like the Gemini, installation can be completed in a couple of
days.
Many of our models are designed to accommodate wheelchairs. We’ll help you
choose a model that fits your mobility and accessibility needs now and into the future.
All our lifts include battery backup systems, which allow the lift to return safely
to the ground level and open the door, even during a power cut. You’ll never be
left stranded.
Nope! Most of our lifts are designed to be whisper quiet, including our compact
through-floor lifts. They’re often quieter than your dishwasher.
Not necessarily. Many of our models—especially Compact Home Lifts—require
minimal structural work and can be installed into existing homes with very little
disruption. We’ll assess your space and provide the most practical solution.
Some lifts only need just over 1m² of floor space, making them perfect for tight
spots. Larger lifts (like wheelchair-friendly options) will need a little more room—
but we can usually find a smart solution for most homes.
Yes. Access Lift & Electrical offers ongoing maintenance, servicing, and
emergency support—all delivered by our local Cairns-based team or our team of
local contractors. You’ll never have to chase a city call centre!
Absolutely. From colour schemes and lighting to glass doors and control panel
finishes, many models can be tailored to match your home’s interior or exterior
design.
While Access Lift & Electrical is not an NDIS registered provider, we regularly
work with NDIS participants, occupational therapists, support coordinators, and
financial assistance programs to help you access funding and get the right
solution in place.
We also support clients navigating My Aged Care and the new Support at Home
program. If you’re eligible for home modification or mobility support funding, we
can help liaise with your provider and assist with documentation and quotes.
💡 Bonus tip: With a supporting letter from your doctor or allied health
professional, you may be eligible to purchase your home lift GST-free under
Parts 14–16 of the GST Act, which covers lifts for people with limited mobility or
restricted use.
Yes—always. We offer free, no-obligation quotes and home assessments. We’ll
